History with BALANCE

"I first became aware of BALANCE in 2005 when Hilary brought a Zenith Saddle for me to try in a lesson I was having with her.   The difference the saddle made to my horse’s movement was immediate.  He was a horse who I struggled to keep off his forehand.  In the Zenith he felt softer, better balanced, and had a ‘spring’ in his steps.  I bought my first BALANCE saddle very soon after.

"There is a solid group instructors and horse owners who support BALANCE and Constructive/Functional Saddling in the North of England, and BALANCE Co-Founder Carol Brett made regular visits to our area to meet with us all.  I was lucky to be involved in her visits, and spent time training in Functional Riding & Training with her.

"In 2011 Carol asked me if I would be interested in becoming a Test Ride Facilitator, and I jumped at the chance.  I went to Buckinghamshire to do my initial training at the beginning of 2012, and have been a Test Ride Facilitator since then, progressing more recently to the BrSC role.  Carol continued to make regular, often monthly, visits to the North to teach us until she passed away in 2018."

Equestrian Experience

"I qualified as BHSAI in 2000.  I also hold my UKCC Level 2 certificate and have taught at Riding Schools, Pony Club Rallies and Camps, as well as freelance.

"Through Carol’s training I learned about the effectiveness of dismounted exercises to improve riders in all disciplines and at all levels.  With this knowledge I have been involved in the Pony Racing Authority/Pony Club training and assessment days since 2011.   Groups of budding young jockeys spend the day with us and I do fun and lively dismounted workshops as part of the training day, to help them become more aware of their balance and any patterns of asymmetry they display in their movement.  They can take this awareness to their riding and improvements are made.

"I taught on a voluntary basis at the RDA.  I did this on a weekly basis from 2007 until 2014.  My training with BALANCE was drawn upon in order to help both mentally and physically disabled children to get the best out of their time on horseback.  Many showed improvements in posture, attention, and confidence which they were able to take into their daily lives.

"I am the Co-Founder of ‘Bridle-Path to Harmony’ which delivers presentations and workshops on Equine and Rider Biomechanics to groups of 8 to 20 people.  If your livery yard or organisation would like to hear more about these thought-provoking, interactive, presentations, then please get in touch for more information."

"I really enjoyed having a BALANCE saddle fitted by Bev Whitehead.  Bev was a pleasure to meet and easy to communicate with through the whole process: very professional, experienced, knowledgeable, kind and approachable.  She travelled to our yard in Derbyshire to see us and brought a good range of BALANCE saddles to try.  It was very luxurious to see the different options available.  Bev did not rush us at all and was gentle and thoughtful with my horse, taking care to consider every bit of feed back he gave us in the process of choosing the right model and size.

Bev gave me tips and guidance on how to help to improve the balance of both my body and my horse and how to use the saddle correctly for maximum benefit.  This is why it is so good to have the help of a TRF, it is one thing to buy a piece of equipment but another altogether to have an expert show you how to use it correctly and the way it has been designed no matter how experienced you might consider yourself to be, or what your previous saddling experience is as there are some fantastic key differences in a BALANCE saddle.

Bev has also given swift replies to any questions I have had since, as the saddle is just the start of the exciting journey!

Rocky is a changed horse since being in a BALANCE saddle.  He has broadened and strengthened beyond recognition and has gone from being visibly unhappy, refusing to canter, regularly backing off the leg and bucking (but with no issues identifiable by the vet), to being a joy to ride and be around.  He is loving hacking, jumping and competing and won his showing class at Derby County Show last year.  He moves freely, is responsive to ride and just generally a lot of fun to be with.

I cannot thank you enough Bev and BALANCE"

“It’s really hard to keep this short. The BALANCE Saddle system, rehabilitation programme, and the support from Bev, who has taught me so much in ways that made sense, has brought my long term ‘broken’ boy to a level of soundness, relaxation, and confidence, that I could never of dreamed of”.

Deb & Major

"I purchased my BALANCE Horizon saddle back in 2015 after Bev came out to North Yorkshire to show me the different options.  Major was 4 at the time and quite broad being a true traditional gypsy cob.  I didn’t want to have anything that would pinch and was concerned about slipping.  No need for any worries as the saddle is amazing.  I do everything in it, dressage, jumping and hacking.  I am only 5’2” and the saddle seems to allow me to sit in a way that I get maximum contact whilst still being in a good position and comfortable."

Deb & Freckles

Deb & Freckles

"Many years ago I purchased 2 BALANCE saddles for my now retired event horse, Lizzie, having seen what an amazing difference it made to her way of going compared to her other 'made to measure' saddles - so when I got my new horse, Freckles, it was a no brainer that she would also have to have a BALANCE saddle.  It has revolutionised the way that I ride in that the horse being comfortable is paramount and an understanding of how both their and my biomechanics can make such a huge difference."

Bev is my local area BALANCE BrSC and I can't speak highly enough of her.  She is very patient, knowledgeable, empathetic and inspiring.  Working with Bev is always a pleasure and I really look forward to my lessons. No two sessions feel the same - She has a knack of pinpointing the cause of any problems I might be encountering and always has loads of new and exciting ideas to bring out the best in both me and Freckles.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anyone who has a BALANCE Saddle already or if they are just considering trying one - you won't be disappointed.
